Here's why I can't ship to the EU

At the moment I’m unable to ship to customers in the EU. It’s because the rules around selling products into the EU have become increasingly complex and, for a very small independent business like mine, the costs of complying can simply outweigh the amount of business I could realistically do there.

There are several requirements to consider, including the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) and the new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Depending on the products and countries involved, this can mean additional paperwork, product and packaging compliance, registrations, authorised representatives and other ongoing obligations. These aren't simply a case of ticking a box once and carrying on as normal, there can be real ongoing costs and administration involved in getting everything set up and keeping it compliant.

To put this into perspective, if I wanted to send orders to an EU country, I would need to pay for an 'authorised representative'. I'd have to pay an annual fee for each country I wanted to sell too. Here's some estimates:

  • Germany — €360

  • France — €580

  • Spain — €780

  • Italy — €805

  • Austria — €805

That's already about €3,330 per year for those five countries before any actual packaging recycling contributions, accounting, customs, GPSR, product compliance, postage and so on. If I only sold 1 order in 1 year to Spain, I would still have to pay the €780 annual fee.

I don't want to take shortcuts or pretend I'm compliant when I'm not. If I'm going to sell somewhere, I want to do it properly and responsibly and right now, the cost and administrative burden of doing that in the EU isn't financially viable for my little business.

So, for the time being, EU shipping is sadly on pause. This isn't a decision I've made lightly, and I really hope that circumstances change in the future and that I can find a practical, affordable way to ship to EU customers again.

Thank you so much for understanding and to my lovely EU customers, I'm genuinely sorry I can't send your way right now.
